Renewable Energy
Types of Energy
Before you begin, click on the button to the left and go to the blog site and write your best definition of what you believe renewable energy is!
Energy, or the ability to cause changes in matter, can exist in many different forms. Energy can also change from one form to another. The photo above represents four forms of energy: mechanical, electrical, thermal, and sound energy. To discover the other three forms of energy read the chapter below. For an introduction to all of these forms of energy, go to this URL:http://www.need.org/nee
|
Complete the form on the left for 10 achievements. Put http://www.need.org/nee in your url window and read the 7 forms of energy an then complete the form. For additional information see the video in the Video section labeled "Day 1".

The Solar Notebook Charger is a 12v dc solar charger that can charge a range of battery-based electronic devices, such as cell phones, iPods, and MP3 players. This particular design is based on a custom solar cell acquired by Solar Schoolhouse. We’ve found that 2 of these solar cells work fine for most phones but the iPhone 4&5, which need the extra 2 cells to charge. The Solar Notebook Charger encourages you to design and build your own enclosure using cardboard and duct tape. The steps shown here illustrate one solder-based option. You also have the choice to connect wires via a solderless approach (using wire nuts) and design a different notebook.

Above is a form that you will need to complete after you have read the chapter and watched the VDO. Please complete it as briefly but as completely as you can, copied definitions from the internet and each other will not be accepted, so please use your own definitions. One person per form no group work will be accepted. (20 achievement points)

Level 1 - Video: Aquatic Productivity (Day 2)
Watch the video to the right to correctly load the sample jars to complete the Net Primary Productivity lab. This lab will help you visualize the amount of productivity algae are cable of when exposed to different amounts of light. We will be using dissolved oxygen sensors to measure the amount of oxygen is manufactured by the algae. Remember the photosynthesis equation: CO2 + H2O = C6H12O6 + O2

Level 1 - Elaborate
Blog Alert: How does monitoring macro-invertebrates show us the level of energy in an aquatic biomes? If the biotic index is 4.2 will it be able to support many populations or fewer? Why? or Why not. What was your groups' Biotic index and what does that tell us about the amount of energy in your area you sampled. achievement points 10 |
Level 1 - Review: (Day 2)
How well did you understand the concept of energy and its different forms? Take the quiz as many times as you would like and record your best score, how many tries and your fastest time. (see below)
16 minute limit per person.
