Organizational Stuff
The objective of this course is for students to gain an understanding of the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil as a medium for plant growth, and the physiology, anatomy, taxonomy, diseases, and pests of plants. Instruction consists of lectures, demonstrations, laboratory experiments, hands-on Supervised Agricultural Experience projects utilizing the Agriculture Area, and guest speakers with careers in related fields. Employment and management skills for careers in the crop production and nursery fields, as well as soil conservation and management strategies are emphasized. The content of this course is aligned with the Model CTE Standards and California high school academic core content area standards.

Plant GrowthOne of the key topics we will learn is Plant Growth and Physiology. We will understand why plant nutrition is important to growth.

Plant DiversityPlants are complex organisms and have to survive in many different ecosystems. Simpily put plants are amazing! Plant classification will also be discussed.

Soil StructureCrop production is dependent on soil structure. Students will learn to distingish between different structures and how they impact production.
