Introduction: Immunity
Does this organism look like a space alien? A scary creature from a nightmare? In fact, it’s a 1-cm long worm that lives in the human body and causes serious harm. It enters the body through a hair follicle of the skin when it’s in a much smaller stage of its life cycle.
Like this worm, many other organisms can make us sick if they manage to enter our body. Fortunately for us, our immune system is able to keep out most such invaders. When you read this chapter, you’ll learn how your immune system keeps you safe from harm—including from scary creatures like this! Watch the video below to see how a virus gets into your body.

Level 22-(10 a,b,c) The immune system protects the body from worms, germs, and other agents of harm. The immune system is like a medieval castle. The outside of the castle was protected by a moat and high stone walls. Inside the castle, soldiers were ready to fight off any invaders that managed to get through the outer defenses. Like a medieval castle, the immune system has a series of defenses. In fact, it has three lines of defense. Only pathogens that are able to get through all three lines of defense can harm the body. You have three options in this section, you will need to choose at least two of the three quests to get 10 achievements. If you complete any extra you will be rewarded with an additional 5 achievements.

DryDitch fever is a disease that recently has been in the headlines. The rate of infection has been on the rise since the spring season and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has recently declared the outbreak of DryDitch fever to be of epidemic proportions. DryDitch fever results in patchy, itchy, scaly skin from head to toe, cotton-mouth, respiratory distress and fever upwards of 104 degrees.

You are the director of the CDC for Northern California. You must decide which age groups are to receive the DryDitch Fever vaccine first. Create a press release explaining which age groups you have chosen to receive the current vaccine first. Use the age group breakdowns that are presented in the data tables.
